Do you need a basic set of ruggers, but don’t want patterns or sewing to fiddle with? Here’s an easy way for beginners and those who are home first to build a seamless collection of curtains without stitching.

Find a sheet of flatbeds with a full top hem

You’ll need one twin-sized sheet, two twin-sized sheets or one full-sized sheet, depending on what look you want. A panel with twin sizes measures 66 by 96 inches (167.64 by 243.84 centimetres). A group of full-size measures blinds and curtains 81 by 96 inches (205.74 by 243.84 centimetres). Some options to get you started are listed below.

  • If you want full curtains, get two twin-sized sheets (one per panel).
  • If you want slim curtains, cut a twin-sized sheet in half to make two sheets.
  • Cut a sheet of full size into half to make two panels, if you want standard curtains.

Wash the boards, dry and iron, to be extracted any fading, wrinkling, and folding lines. Make sure the sheets washed according to the instructions on the box or tag. If you have misplaced the box and can’t find the sticker, use a cold wash cycle and a dry cycle as usual. Iron the sheets once dry.

How to Sew Curtains

After you cut them, most sheets won’t fray, but if you hem it, you’ll get a more beautiful finish. Fold both raw edges inwards, twice by 1⁄2 inch (1.27 centimeters) to the wrong side of the fabric. With an iron, press the fold flat and put some iron-on hem tape inside the hem. Click the sleeve to show it again according to the instructions on the packet.

  • Due to the length with which you work, you might find it easier to insert and iron 10 inches (25.4 centimeters) long iron-on hem tape sections at a time.
  • Flip the curtain over when you’re done, so the right side faces you, and press the hems flat for 3 to 5 seconds. That helps further seal off the iron-on hem tape.
